Disc Dog Training | Dog Discs & Dog Frisbee Gear
A little About Dog Discs & Frisbee Dog Gear...
There is almost an endless supply of various discs for dogs sold on the Internet, as well as in pet shops worldwide. Everyone claims to have the best flying, but toughest puncture resistant discs for dogs ever made. How to truly decide which is the best, when all of them claim to having the utmost in state of the art aerodynamics and be made of only the greatest hi tech polymers? Can they all have patented gripping surfaces? How can something that is approximately 8.75” in diameter and weigh in the region of 130 grams make a huge difference in distance throws, hover right above your canine for breath taking moments yet is never too rigid nor too brittle for your dog’s mouth? Will the average Frisbee blissful canine find it flexible enough for grasping tight enough to please that dog? Trust me, you dog knows.
So will you when you find the right discs for dogs that enable you to win record-setting distance throws that the dog is capable of catching for you. Be careful around water as some of these do not float, and thus are susceptible to loss around lakes and other water hazards.
Sometimes with an older dog especially, its days of catching the normal hard edged discs for dogs is over when the owner finds cuts and abrasions in the dog’s mouth. Well, fear not, there are even soft edged floppy discs now sold that will not harm an older dog’s mouth. They too are somewhat indestructible and will even put up with your dog’s victory lap chomp. Surprise there will be no fang marks either. Speaking of older dogs, this also solves the problem of older dogs that miss the ordinary hard Frisbee and get hit in the head with it. This will stop the dog from getting hurt as well.
Some dog owners have smaller more petite dogs that cannot handle the typical 8.75” diameter discs for dogs. Again, fear not, they do make smaller discs for dogs. These discs are only 4” in diameter, thus are perfect for smaller dogs or even puppies. Most of these are constructed of pet friendly rubber instead of the harder polymers that the larger ones are made of too.
Interestingly enough some dog owners who partake of the agility runs as well as the disc training styles learn to never bring discs to the agility runs even as motivators. What happens is that those dogs that work with discs refuse to partake in agility runs as long as the discs are around. See what I told you about the dogs knowing?
